Access Control Expertise

Thames Valley Automation provide flexible access control solutions for both homes and businesses. An important addition to modern homes as it offers ultimate convenience with keyless and simple entry, while in businesses it offers managed access to a building, area, or even a locker or drawer.

Electronic door locking solutions means that you don’t have to ever worry about lost keys again. If someone loses their key fob don’t call the locksmith out, simply delete their fob! As well as this benefit never worry about leaving a key under the door mat when the mother-in-law comes to visit, simply create them their own code in your smart home app. Finally, how many times have you been at work when the delivery driver comes to call, and you get home to a note on the doormat and a time to go and collect your parcel from a distribution centre that is only open when you’re at work? Simply create a single use One-Time-Code and your deliveries can be left securely in a place of your choosing – and that code will never work again so cannot be misused.

Most businesses already realise the benefits of access control and what it can offer but have outdated systems that are reaching end-of-life, meaning they are difficult to maintain and source parts for, and are lacking in benefits offered by current systems. Don’t feel locked in. Thames Valley Automation can upgrade your system which is often more cost effective in the mid to long term than repeated repair and call out costs on trying to maintain on old system. Plus if you have the access software installed on an old PC in the basement that only one member of staff knows the password for, lets retire that old workhorse and move your access system to an easy to manage app that can be installed on as many devices and PCs as you want.

Centrally Controlled

Our central app allows complete management of your access control system on local WiFi or remotely over the internet. You can add or remove codes or tags easily and even provide a One-Time-Code for a visitor or guest. Our Access keypads include a door bell function, so even if you don’t have an intercom you can still be notified instantly when you have a visitor or guest.

Include a video intercom or CCTV from Thames Valley Automation with your install and you can also view your door in the app to see who is there, and grant access remotely to the premises without leaving the comfort of your seat or disrupting your workflow.

Intelligently Automated

Come home and unlock the premises with a single code or proximity tag which will open the electronic lock and let you into the building.

The bell button on the keypad can link to your multimedia system or a separate sounder or speaker to alert you of a visitor. Lights can also be triggered to flash to give an extra visual cue that someone is at the door.

Unlocking the building for the day or back from holiday? Entering a valid code or presenting a valid tag will open the door and tell the building to disarm the alarm and start any routines you wish such as turning on the heating. Your imagination is the limit with what we can do for you.

What is access control and why is it vital?

Access control offers a secure, convenient, flexible and cost-effective way of controlling who has access to your building and when that access is allowed.

At a very basic level, access control is a means of controlling who enters a location and when. The person entering may be an employee, a contractor or a visitor and they may be on foot, driving a vehicle or using another mode of transport. The location they’re entering may be, for example, your home, a site, a building, a room or a cabinet.

Why do I need it?

All businesses have to protect assets and employees whilst allowing people to move freely in the areas that they need. It is common in buildings that are secured by locks and keys for doors to be left unlocked all day. This opens up the possibility of opportunist theft and malicious damage.

Installing an access control system means that you will never have to change a lock again. Tokens and codes are issued to allow access through the controlled doors and are easily barred from the system if they are lost or stolen.

Why use an access control system instead of keys?

key or fob entry through your front door

People lose keys

When keys are lost or stolen, the inconvenience and expense of changing locks and re-issuing keys can be considerable. People also don’t always return keys when they should and no one wants the worry that an ex-employee or old romance might let themselves in. Keys may also be copied, creating more security risks.

Keys don’t leave an audit trail

You can’t see if and when someone’s used a key, so you don’t know who’s entered or at what time. When did your eldest child crawl in from a night out or when did someone clock in over the weekend so you can sign off their timesheet?

Keys are difficult to manage

Who has what key? When were they issued it and did they return it? Not many places have the same key that can be used in different doors (which presents its own problems) meaning a bunch of clunky keys being carried around taking up pocket space. If someone needs to enter many different buildings and rooms, they’ll need a large number of keys, which are inconvenient to carry and use. It can be difficult to remember which key is for which door, but it’s too much of a security risk to label them.

Designed to make the management of any building or home very simple

Thames Valley Automation access control systems are networked allowing for administration using one or more PCs, phones, or tablets, and can be monitored and managed from a central location or remotely over the internet.

How does it work?

flat and apartment intercom systems

Always Secure

Once an access control system is installed, all doors controlled by the system will automatically lock when the door is closed. Anyone without a code or access token is unable to enter.

Access control also offers flexible control over users’ access rights. For example, all staff can gain access through the main door of a building, but access to internal areas may be restricted to those who have a specific need to be there. Access may also be restricted by time, only granting access to particular users at certain times of day or night.

Security and Safety Benefits

Access control systems provide businesses with an effective deterrent against criminals walking into offices, driving into buildings or vandalising property in car parks, while still allowing authorised visitors and employees to circulate freely.

Access control comes in many forms, from audio intercoms to video entry systems, swipe card readers to biometric systems, electric gates to rising bollards. Whatever your requirements, Thames Valley Automation can advise you on the right technology for your needs and provide a solution for you.

As with all of our systems, we can also integrate your access control system with other aspects of your security and fire systems, or with the wider part of your smart building. If access control is your first step into smart buildings and automation, this can be expanded at a future date to incorporate smart lighting, multimedia and audio, climate control, and more. A valid code being entered at the front door could automatically have the lobby lights turn green and an announcement be made over the speakers. Leaving your house or building can automatically arm the intruder alarm and turn off the lights and heating.
